Calling all Time Agents...

Posted on 2009.06.27 at 16:35
Having finally assembled the cast for the launch of The Paradox Club (working title), I thought I'd put the word out to see if anyone else wants to join in the fun.

The club (which will launch on friday 17th July at The Last Days of Decadence) has as its basic premise the idea that the bar has been ripped out of space/time from the 1930s, and has now become a nexus for time travellers. In other words, guests are invited to dress up as characters from any period of history (or the future), and, if they like, to bring their own stories to share/act out etc.

There will be a cast of actors playing the hapless residents of the club who are stuck there, while all the chrononauts come and go as they please. There will be DJs and live acts, but the emphasis is on the immersive experience, and the stories which will unfold as the evening progresses. The fantastic concept was created by Jake Evans and Tobias Fauntleroy, and I've been given the task of overseeing the performance side of things.

SO... what I'm looking for now are people who'd like to come and play minor roles as the mysterious and morally ambiguous Time Agents. You'll need to come in character (anything you like, as per the general dress code), and only reveal yourselves as Time Agents at a crucial point in the plot, towards midnight. As it's the launch night, we can only offer guest list and some drinks for now (maybe more could be sorted closer to the date), but it's a great opportunity to e involved in what promises to be a very exciting monthly night.

Any takers..?

Busy busy busy...

Wow - it's really starting to shape up in to a busy summer for me and all my various projects, with a load of Bohemianauts gigs, some compering and even the odd outing for H P Lovebox. Last night I finally visited the Resistance Gallery for the excellent "Boris Keep Your Promise" benefit, where I was delighted to find out that Gary, who runs the gallery is an old mate of my good friend Adam's, and an old (forgotten) acquaintance of mine. Plots have been hatched, plus a very exciting (top secret) project has been offered to me...
Tonight we'll be rocking the bar at The Globe with The Bohemianauts, and tomorrow it's off to The George Tavern to headline at Shore Leave. Fun, fun, fun...

Residency at The Swan

Posted on 2009.05.10 at 14:50
Yes! After (well, actually before) a lovely gig at The Swan Bar @ The Globe Theatre last night with The Bohemianauts, we were booked for three dates, just in June! Excellent! A residency! Plus, the Fitzrovia Radio Hour crew (who run the entertainments at The Swan) are an excellent bunch of smart and witty retro-heads. AND they'll be playing (along with a lot of my favourite performers) with us at White Mischief in a couple of weeks' time...

Carny Ville carnage....

Posted on 2009.05.05 at 16:00
I realised yesterday evening, while fortifying myself with service station fish and chips, that after an epic 3-day stint running the upstairs cabaret bar at Carny Ville, I sorely needed an extra day off, to recover from my weekend, so here I am chilling out at home, sorting out a few practicalities, and waiting for my voice to come back...

Once again, the wonderful crew of The Invisible Circus put on one of the most amazing shows I have ever been involved in, and this time I had the pleasure of co-hosting the cabaret bar with my fantastic flatmate/fellow instigator Larry Lush. Cue three nights of talking seven kinds of shit in an ongoing hysterical double-act kind of way, and making a kicking party vibe from whatever acts were sent our way, and a pile of CDs found behind the bar... Spoon Jar, Jar Spoon, Spoon Jar, to quote the great Tommy Cooper (you had to be there). We also got roped in to being the random accordionists in a tiny cardboard sea, with some delightful sailor ladies... Oh yes. Loads of kudos and approbation came our way, new freinds made and old mates re-met, all to a garish and neon backdrop, and a series of seemingly endless after-parties. Whoop whoop!

May's really shaping up well - I've a Bohemianauts gig this saturday at The Swan Bar @ The Globe theatre (thanks to Fred Snow and The Fitzrovia Radio Hour), which is free (and from 10.30 - midnight), then the weekend after that I'm off to play in a Speakeasy in Brighton, followed by White Mischief on the 23rd, and a compering/H P Lovebox gig in a SpiegelTent in Bath on the 29th. Fun fun fun.

PLUS, Larry and I have decided to follow up our success at co-hosting over the weekend by setting up a new monthly night. Random acts, recycled humour and found music... Watch this space....

Must be happy...

if I come home from work, cook risotto, and get most of the house making and papering lanterns...
Just so long as the rain holds off, we'll have a pretty garden for the fire at our party on friday...

If you have forgotten, or don't know where we live, send me a message...

The first time singing in the mask was my first performance...

You can see a longer set from the Cthonic Crooner on the 23rd of April at The Others in Stokey...
Many thanks to Aste for her fabulous mask and Steve for his steady hand on the camera. And the reciting of ancient names. Backwards.

Birthday Drinks this thursday...

Posted on 2009.03.17 at 22:29
I'll be meeting folk this thursday at 8pm at The Ship 116 Wardour Street for a few drinks before heading off to Gaz's Rockin Blues (basement of St Moritz,  161 Wardour Street - like the numerological similarities?) to see the fabulous Zen Hussies, around 10.45...

If you can't afford the gig/stay out late on a school night, do come along to the pub and have a few drinks with me to take the edge off another year of misbehaving...
